A Crystal Grotto wedding in Painshill Park

Aug 30, 2025 | Weddings

It was a day of quintessential English beauty

Top-hats and tails, and afternoon tea. A Bridgerton wedding venue; a vintage Rolls in the Surrey Hills. It was intimate, and stylish, and bursting with ‘summer wedding’ inspiration. This was Olly and Blythe’s wedding in Painshill Park.

They said their vows in the iconic Crystal Grotto. We had scones, and confetti, and sparkling wine from the venue’s vineyard. And to finish the day: a Michelin Star meal in The Holiday-famous town of Shere.

Every moment was cared-for, every detail was considered. And every photo woven through with the gentle beauty of English summer.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding in Painshill Park, come take a little look. Olly and Blythe’s wedding was utterly flawless.

Painshill Park wedding venue in Surrey

I live across the road from this incredible venue (it’s actually my favourite dog-walking spot!)

And oh my, a Painshill Park wedding is an absolute dream. The peacefulness of it, the well-loved gardens, and tranquil lake. The walled garden, and gothic chapel; the ceremony spaces- outdoors and indoors, big and small.

Oh, and lest we forget, the endless photo spots for your couple’s portraits!

They’ve filmed Bridgerton here, Vanity Fair, and Dorian Gray. And even (brace yourself), Chucklevision!

It’s one of those *dreamy sigh* venues that takes your breath away from the moment you arrive. And as a Surrey wedding photographer (and morning dog-walker!), this might just be my favourite place in the world.

An intimate ceremony in the Crystal Grotto

Sunlight danced across the lake of Painshill Park wedding venue. Geese honked happily in the sun; Olly looked dapper as he hugged his guests hello. And with the ceremony calling, we headed through the grounds to the Crystal Grotto.

Dating back to the 18th Century, the Crystal Grotto is a truly magical place to say your vows.

Water bubbles quietly in coral pools, sunlight pours in through the shafts. And all around you- embedded in the walls, the ceiling, the stalactites- thousands-upon-thousands of crystals sparkle in the light.

Blythe looked stunning in her 20’s-inspired gown; her headpiece and dress sparkling with the walls of the grotto.

And the ceremony was beautiful- heartfelt and intimate, with personally written vows. The laughter of their guests, echoing through that magical space.

Before long, the register was signed, and they’d sealed it with a kiss. And Olly and Blythe walked back out into the sunshine as husband and wife.

Afternoon tea in Painshill Park

A little while later, we were gathered outside- the river lazing past us, and dried-petal confetti filling the air.

We mingled outside for a while, and had some must-have group shots backdropped by the lake. And with the summer sun beating down on us, we headed back into the cool of the grotto for afternoon tea.

And can I just say? You cannot beat creamy jammy scones on a hot summer’s day! The happy chatter of guests filled the grotto. We had award-winning sparkling wine, grown in the vineyards at Painshill Park.

It was wonderful, you know? Relaxed, welcoming, incredibly tasty! And the perfect way for O&B to spend some quality time with their guests.

Couple’s wedding photography in Painshill Park

When you have your wedding in Painshill Park, they give you a golf buggy for the day. And not only is it tons of fun (which it is, by the way!), it allows you to make the most of this exceptionally photogenic venue.

Olly and Blythe kissed and cuddled on the Bridgerton bridge. They danced in the gothic chapel overlooking the glittering river. And they got to just be by themselves for a while. To be alone for the first time as a married couple- wrapped-up in love, and immersed in the natural beauty of Painshill Park.

In what felt like no time at all, it was time for us to head back. So we jumped in the buggy, and trundled through those stunning grounds to rejoin the guests.

They raised a toast, and waved goodbye. And jumped in their vintage Rolls Royce to their reception.

(Well, almost to their reception. We had one little stop planned along the way…)

A few peaceful moments in the sunny Surrey Hills

The wheels of the Rolls crunched to a stop as we pulled into the famous beauty spot of Newlands Corner

Birds and grasshoppers chirped away happily; Blythe’s dress swished along the sun-warm grass. And for a while, it felt like we had the world to ourselves.

O&B kissed, and laughed, and looked out across the view. He scooped her up; she stole his hat.

And it was only for a little while. A few stolen minutes, a little detour, a quick stop along the way. But it’s a memory they’ll always have, always share, always cherish.

Just them, the summer sun, and those stunning Surrey Hills.

An intimate reception in Kinghams

Our afternoon ended in the quintessentially English village of Shere. Made famous by Four Weddings, The Holiday, and Bridget Jones, this little village is arrestingly, jaw-droppingly, “oh wow, look at that!” pretty!

And nestled away in that biscuit-tin-worthy place is the Michelin Star restaurant of Kinghams

We had speeches and drinks in the courtyard garden. There were hugs, tears, and head-back laughter. And with a collective squeal of excitement, we were called inside for an elegant candlelit dinner.

And for me, this is the best thing about having an intimate wedding.

There was no rush to speak to everyone, no battle for attention. It was just Olly and Blythe, and a handful of their favourite people. Sharing award-winningly-tasty food, and celebrating their love with the people who matter most.
